Tony Newbould, C Chem, BSc (Hons), MRSC, is the principal of ajn solutions.

Tony Newbould has worked in the coatings and inks manufacturing industry for forty years. He enjoyed twenty years in the manufacturing sector, in a variety of posts including product development, laboratory management, technical support and service, product promotion and marketing and business management.

He joined the then Paintmakers Association in 1988 as Technical Manager, retiring in 2008 as the Deputy Chief Executive of the British Coatings Federation, which represents the interests of decorative coating, printing ink, industrial coating and wallcovering manufacturers in the UK.

In that role, Tony was responsible for the trade association’s technical activities, including health, safety, environment, standards, packaging and transport, with a particular emphasis on topic areas such as REACH, environmental protection, the printing ink sector, dangerous substance and preparation classification and information provision.

He has actively represented the coatings industry, both at a UK and European level, in negotiating and lobbying on the development of principles and technical detail of legislation and other initiatives.

From January 2006, Tony had an additional role for the European industry association, CEPE, as the Issue Manager REACH Exposure Scenarios. He was responsible for CEPE’s contribution to the development of the European Commission’s technical guidance documents on risk assessments and information flows (Chemical Safety Reports) and on downstream user obligations within the REACH Regulation.

He has a wealth of unique practical experience of industry and Government priorities and issues, which now is available to business, legislators, regulators and public interest groups.
